LOVE

Hello hello…. Welcome to the month of “love”. I was at Woolies today and I’d never seen so many “romantic” men all in one space, some quite frantic and others quite calm, with quite an experienced look. The common factor though was that each had a bouquet of gorgeous flowers, a box of chocolate, and a few even a tub of mousse or some other dessert in hand. I was honestly just giggling inside. Don’t ask me why I was so amused, because Valentines day is probably one of the most celebrated holidays on the calendar AND the biggest marketing ploy ever since sliced bread. I’m totally not against the day and the celebration of it. No lies, if my hubby came home with a bouquet of my favourite flowers / pot of my favourite greens I’d be pretty chuffed. The issues I have though, are how one-sided it has become over the years, it seems to be only about the female receiving and experiencing the feeling of love. I also really dislike how it builds up unrealistic expectations, a man is expected to move mountains because of how competitive and comparative driven women have become. And my worst, the essence and beauty of love being brought down to one day of the year. I really do hope you express, give and share love every day and don’t wait till society marks a day out for you on a calendar to do so. I ain’t hating, I’m just saying we need to wise up a little and stop being enslaved to the demands of society. With that being said, I’d still like to wish you a very Happy Valentines day for tomorrow. Be light about it, take it easy, if you know your man/ lady isn’t into it, just have fun and make a card out of the office paper you see everyday, they might just laugh about it! Remember love is to be shared, expressed and experienced everyday. To my ladies PLEASE stop putting so much pressure on your men to out do Kanye West’s sponsored gift to Kim. You are not Kimye! Instagram is not real life!

Anyways, today is my sister’s birthday insert champagne emoji!  Those who know me quite well , will know that we are two peas in a pod. Come to think of it I hardly ever take photos with her, or if I do, I hardly ever upload them. Maybe because we are always together and she’s ultra camera-shy. Well basically what I’m trying to say is, if I’m not with my husband, my go to person is then my sister. I love spending time with her, I’m 100% my self around her, most of the time annoying on LEVELS, but what are little sisters for. We have that finish each others sentences type bond, I can pick up in the tone of her voice when she’s not okay, see it on her face when she’s going through something. We pretty much tell each other everything, A-Z in the most detailed manner you could ever imagine. Convo can go from boy stalking, sex, God, then off on a tangent to something like a dessert recipe, ha ha. We are that random and that free around each other, it truly blesses my heart, because so many pray for what we have. We have a laugh that we only get, that could probably leave you feeling like “okay these two are really close”, we don’t do it intentionally, but it really is just that- we are super close. Our relationship became stronger when I moved up to Joburg to live with her and my niece in 2008. We have quite a hefty gap between us, a little over a decade, not to give away her age. A lot people are always shocked by this, because my sister doesn’t look anything close to her age and more than anything, no one expects us to be as close as we are considering the age gap.

Honest truth and the scariest thing is I don’t know what I’d do if I were to lose her, she’s honestly the real deal in every way. She’s taught me so much, and most of it through hard lessons and personal hardship she’s had to overcome. She’s genuine, a rare gem and the best gift to me. She is gracious, tolerates more  than she should, a lot of times doing so patiently. She’ll pray with you and pray you out of any situation, because that’s the kind of faith she has in her God. Her go to words, will always have something to do with God, cause her relationship with Him is that deep and that important to her. She is kind, sometimes a little too kind, but that’s just the heart of Christ showing Himself strong in her. She’s been through so much, more than a person should in one lifetime. Even though I’m her younger sister, I wish I could’ve shielded her from the harshness of life. She’s a tough cookie though, she’s learnt to take on the Word of God and never accept defeat in her life. Her thoughtfulness, generosity,heart and character blow my mind. My ultimate though is her love for her daughter, Ono is her everything. Happy birthday Marads, I love you beyond!

A little bit about this look: I’ve had this top for quite a while, I’d normally wear it around the complex pool on days where I’d take Kwando to swim, or as a cover up, but that’s just about all the wear it’s had. A few friends in my circle would go on and on about how Pick n Pay Clothing has amazing pieces at quite affordable prices, one would even go as far as purchasing items during sale time with her smart shopper points. So that’s basically how I ended up with this floral number, because of very convincing friends. It’s actually got tassels hanging on the bottom edges, but because I tucked it into the skirt they aren’t visible. Also, that’s the reason why I also look so bulky around my midriff, just thought I’d throw that in there before people start asking if I’m preggers, ha ha. The skirt I got last year sometime at Edgars’s ongoing sales. I think it only debuted itself during the december holidays though. This year, I’m not letting items sit in my wardrobe, everything at the back has now come out to play, this is all thanks to a friend that’s been on my case about how I don’t wear the clothes I blog. Dearest friend, I heard your cries! ha ha!
