It's Me Style

How sway?

Happy New Year lovelies! Is that still even a thing you’re allowed to say in the month of February?! Anyways, you guys get that I’m just greeting you since it’s my first style post of 2017. I trust the year has been good to you thus far, if not, chin up honey God is on your side. I could honestly just scream, not out of frustration, but pure excitement about this year and what it holds. Last year was emotionally taxing on so many levels for me, a lot of firsts happened for me in terms of starting the blog and co-running my first business. I can never take away how amazing God was in that regard, He really helped me realize that fear is truly a lie. Unfortunately death can make one feel like nothing good ever took place. I lost my dad in November last year to cancer. Although I knew he was sick and saw him in excruciating pain, it’s still such a hard pill to swallow that I’ll never see him again. On some days I still go on as if he’s still alive, and on others reality slaps me right in the face and I realize that I no longer have an earthly father.  I think about him a lot, sometimes I even cry, and at times I feel guilty as if there was more I could’ve done. I miss even the silliest of  things, like how he’d have to lick two ice-creams almost simultaneously, because my brother and I no longer wanted them. I know he’s in a much better place, more than I can humanly comprehend, so that gives me comfort. It’s still going to be a long journey though, I’m taking it day by day. I’ve had a chat with a few people who are close to me and I’ve concluded: That firstly, death is definitely ungodly, God really did not have it in mind for His children and that secondly, in time you will heal, but you will never forget. I just want to say thank you to everyone who took the time to wish me their heart-felt condolences last year.

On a much lighter note, I’m all systems go and I have quite a bit planned for the blog this year. All shall be revealed in good time, some things are already underway, but just awaiting a professional marketing strategy and final touches. These mini projects are keeping me uber busy, but not busier than Kwando though. I can never say it enough, CRECHE is a lifesaver, ha ha. If you’re a parent and you’re reading this right now, I know you are fervently nodding away . The two-year old stage is LIFE y’all, he is more alive than ever and so are you as the parent, ultimately because you have no choice but to be. He’s at a stage where he somewhat easily expresses himself, but also very irritable when he can’t effectively communicate what he wants. That either means he’ll cry or throw a tantrum till he gets what he wants, so the naughty corner has been turned up to full blast. It seems to be working , probably momentarily, but I’ll take it.

One of my goals this year is to perfect the art of doing make-up on myself, just to be clear. I honestly have zero intentions on learning how to make one look pretty! I’m trying by all means to cut costs on blogging expenses this year, without minimizing quality. Instead of booking a makeup artist that will charge me a hefty price, I now spend more time on you-tube watching tutorials. My current favourite beauty blogger has to be Aqeelah Harron Ally, besides how flawless she looks, I love that she’s down to earth ( well so she comes across) and her videos are super easy to follow. I’m nowhere near pro status (yet), I don’t even have all the right brushes or products, so I need beginner techniques to help me along. If you guys follow any great beauty bloggers, please feel free to share and I’ll check them out.

How sway? This is the only appropriate description I can think of for this look. I can’t articulate it any better than that. You will have to read between the lines to encode what I’m trying to say, ha ha. Black will always be my go to colour, and I’m not even ashamed to say that. It oozes class, always readily available and relatively easy to style. I’ve worn these pants before in one of my shoots, but I decided to pull a  ‘ngwana wa di empty stomach’  on the look, on the real that is probably my favourite line from 2016, ha ha. The top piece is actually a french gown that’s part of my lingerie collection, I thought the Sheerness of the garment would work really well in creating an undertone of sexy. Please feast your eyes on my first style post of 2017 and don’t forget to drop me a message to let me know what you think.

How beast is my photographer though? Mikayla, you are truly heaven-sent!
