Lipidol Oils

Really excited about today’s product review, because these two products have been the biggest game changer to my beauty regime. My skin is naturally dry, namely because of a lack of hydration on my part. I really struggle to drink water if it’s not infused with fruits or a few slices of lemon. My daily intake should be 1.8 litres according to my body weight, but even 500ml is an everyday struggle for me. That being beside the point though, because this post is about the Lipidol cleansing oil and overnight facial oil.

“The skin’s natural way of looking after itself is through the production of oils known as lipids. By using oils in daily skincare you help your skin maintain its natural way of working. The outcome is skin that stays in balance, avoids problems and radiates with good health. The difference between your current skin and your best skin could simply be oil!

I had never used an oil based solution before these two products and, I was both intrigued and nervous at the same time. As mentioned above, my skin leans more toward the dry and dehydrated side, but neither did I want to have overly oily skin or breakout issues. So before you dismiss this post, I need to clear up the myth that using oil products on your face causes breakouts. After much research, I realized that my theory was extremely flawed. Oils contain anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, vitamins, amino acids and anti-oxidants, so in fact, particular facial oils can assist in reducing acne and blemishes. One of the many reasons I stepped out of my comfort zone to try these products was:

1) it’s by a reputable brand Bio Oil and let’s be honest, they’ve been killing the game since even our mammas mammas, so most of us have had some sort of interaction with the brand.

2) The price, it’s crazy affordable. If you do your research on oil cleansers, you’ll understand why I was so overjoyed about the price. Too be honest, it’s a little too low-priced for such a well performing product.

3) Good old packaging. I’m a sucker for simple, clean, minimalistic packaging and Lipidol ticks all the right boxes.

4) I’ve been dying to attempt the double cleansing skincare trend. I’d heard some great reviews and testimonies on how beneficial it is for the skin. That’s a post for another day!

Let’s start with the blue-bottle: Lipidol cleansing face oil. It comes in a 125ml bottle with a screw on top.

Application: You apply a small amount ( just two/ three drops) on your fingertips. Do not be tempted to overuse the product, because you will be slightly annoyed at how much longer the process will be. Also, you’ll feel how unnecessary the extra dose was on your skin. It’s important to remember to apply the product onto a DRY face. Then add a little bit of warm water and continue to massage your skin. The oil will immediately emulsify to form a very thin creamy white texture. I normally massage my skin for about a minute and including the eye area ( if I used mascara ), even though they warn against doing so. I’ve personally had no issues with regards to this, and if you do attempt it, please do so with caution. The last step is to then rinse off with warm water.

The skin feels nourished and breathable, and baby bottom soft. The oil does not leave your skin feeling clogged up, or leave you with that annoying feeling of oil build up.

The yellow product: overnight face oil. It wasn’t a simultaneous use of both products, it took me months before I picked up another product, because I first wanted to see the benefits of the double cleansing oil routine before I added another oil product. It’s safe to say I waited too long, because this product is probably my favourite of the two. The overnight face oil comes in a 50ml small-sized bottle, which is perfect for travelling. Below I’ve listed a few essential oils within the product and their benefits.

1. Rosehip oil which has anti ageing benefits and helps reduce inflammation and fine lines. It also helps to reduce skin pigmentation.

2. It contains pomegranate seed oil which has antioxidant properties. It also helps to revitalise dull looking skin.

3. Plukenetia volubus seed oil which has very high contents of omega 3 and 6 oils. It also helps to prevent and slow the aging process of the skin thus preventing dry wrinkled skin.

4. Safflower seed oil which helps to lubricate the skin’s surface giving it a soft and smooth appearance. Safflower oil is found to be ideal for improving the quality and texture of skin. They also facilitate the regeneration of new skin cells, leaving you looking younger.

5. Sunflower seed oil which imitates the fat content found in our skin. This comes in handy to prevent moisture loss.

Application: To be applied only in the evenings after your night-time beauty routine.  You could even put it on your bed side table to serve as a reminder. Once again, just two/ three drops of the oil and apply on your skin. The oil easily glides across the face, leaving a fresh and subtle burst of essential oils such as ylang-ylang and black pepper. This is a leave-in oil, please do not rinse it off once applied. It creates an invisible face mask to help nourish the skin during its overnight rejuvenation.

The reason why I love this product is because, it leaves the skin feeling hydrated. The benefits: it supplements the skins natural oil layer that’s stripped away by daily exposure to external elements. In case you might be thinking it, it will not stain your pillow because it absorbs very well into the skin, which also means you will not wake feeling and looking oily.

I’d really encourage those of you that are interested in trying out oils or have a keen interest in double cleansing, to start by purchasing these two products.

Price: I’m sure you’re going to think I’m selling you dreams, these products retail for R90. 95. It sounds too good to be true, but yes they’re that affordable and totally worth it! WHY YOU SHOULD DOUBLE CLEANSE:

The reason why it’s so important to double cleanse the skin is because, contrary to popular belief oil fights oil. The oil prevents the stripping of moisture off the face and it also cleans off impurities and grime, something that a normal cleanser can’t do. Start by using an oil cleanser, then follow by using you’re normal facial cleanser.
