You guys, it’s been FOREEEEEEVERRRR….. I really didn’t think I’d be out for this long, but toddlers have a way of making this kinda thing seem like it might just be permanent.
So for those who don’t know, let me just fill you in. I’m still practically phone less at the moment, because the phone I’m currently using is what I would consider ‘a get you by’ type phone. I owe all these “challenges” I’m currently facing to my precious boy. To let you in on the story of how I got to having a ‘ a get you by’ phone, my dearest toddler decided to do thee unthinkable and took a bath with my phone. This unfortunate incident happened a few weeks back, and would you believe, he threw the biggest tantrum not understanding why he was in the wrong. I have to just interject: The two-year old stage is A LOT of work! I feel like my husband and I spend half our time reprimanding, correcting, disciplining and trying not to become “those parents who have that child”. I hope you guys get me?!
To think that wasn’t enough, life decided to throw me yet another major curve ball and test Busi a little more than usual. My laptop decided to cave in on me. Don’t ask me how I’m meant to continue with the blogger life and be a serious businesswoman without the necessary tools. And that ladies and gents (maybe), is the reason why I’ve been M.I.A (missing in action).
On the home front, all is well. I was away for the past two weekends, excluding this mother’s day weekend. The first weekend we had a little family getaway to Rustenburg. I was so excited to finally see where my sister lives, because I would constantly make fun of her on about Rustenburg. The picture I had in mind; was a really dusty town, with one shopping center with a Checkers and everyone having to shop from there, ha ha. She grew so tired of convincing me that Rusty’s a livable and quite developed ownt. She’d always respond by saying “You’ll see when you come visit me”. And I hate to admit it, but I was so wrong! I mean I wouldn’t ever consider living there, but if I had no choice I would easily be able to adjust. It’s properly developed, with lavish houses on mountain tops overlooking the city, and yes they do have a Checkers, but a Pick n Pay and Woolworth’s Food too. ha ha!
My sister was sweet enough to organize a four day pass for all of us into Sun City, so we spent 3 days out of the 4 exploring all it had to offer.I personally had never been there before, and my husband had beeeeen harping on about it. I was completely blown away by it all, I felt like a serious tourist that couldn’t help but snap away at every chance I got. The activities were endless and to squeeze them all in one weekend would’ve been impossible with two kids. One toddler that would instantly be cranky around nap time and a soon to be ten-year old that complained more times than I care to mention about the amount of walking. So because of those reasons it was impossible!I would definitely consider going back, with waaaaay more money and to try out more adventurous activities.
The plan was to spend Friday and Saturday away from Kwando at a lodge, but unfortunately that didn’t quite work out as planned. I should probably name and shame, but for the sake of being a kind human being I’ll just call it- The lodge. Firstly we got ridiculously lost trying to find the place, but finally after about an hour or so after nearly giving up we eventually found it. The manager on duty took us to our room, and my first impression was not a good one. I was HIGHLY unimpressed with cleanliness of the room. I’m already slightly OCD, so my standards are already above the norm. The bed linen at least looked clean, but the rest of the room needed a thorough scrub in my eyes. Somehow I agreed to stay, and we ended up paying for the room. I guess a part of me knew how much my husband and I needed this time away from our son. And personally last year was quite an emotionally draining year for me with the passing of my dad, so I knew I needed the break. I asked the gentleman if he couldn’t maybe move us to another room, but with the lodge being nearly fully booked that evening, I knew I was pushing my luck. He was able to organize another room for us, but it was really no different in comparison to the first. Then came the ultimate deal breaker ( insert loud dramatic music), on our way back to the car my husband admits to me that he quickly flushed down a number two before I stepped in to view the bathroom. A whole SOMEBODY else’s number two………..you guyyyyyyyssssss!!!! I swear it was like a switch went off in my brain. There was not a chance that I was going to ever sleep there, I was so disgusted! I know I might be sounding slightly or even overly dramatic to some, but I was just not comfortable with paying for less than we deserve. The owners were eventually called, and told us that the cleaning staff was off duty and that the manager would have to clean our room. He then started cleaning the bathroom with toilet paper, yes toilet paper?! I immediately asked if we could be refunded our money, to which she replied “I unfortunately can’t force you to stay”, which I assumed was her apology to us. Although we were both bummed that we didn’t sleep away from Kwando, we were determined to enjoy the rest of the time we had together.

On the Sunday, we had a lovers only day and we spent the day at a place called Mountain Sanctuary park, about 30-35 mins drive out of Rusty. Magical is just an understament! I’d always wanted to go hiking with T, but we had never gotten around to doing it because of Kwando and his age. The weather was just perfect, a bit of wind and light sun rays. We hiked for about 4 hours that day and to be honest I didn’t really feel it at all, because I was just so into the moment I was having with my husband. I didn’t realize how much I had missed that, just being able to focus on him, his thoughts, seeing his infectious smile and just laughing like two crazy in-love teenagers. I feel in love with my husband all over again that day, I’m even beaming as I type this. The views, ahhhhh they were just breathtaking! We took so many pictures, and even considered coming back there to camp for Kwando’s third birthday. That same evening we went on a date night, I can’t even begin to tell you how lovely it was. Having Kwando around often means, actually always means going to a child friendly restaurant i.e Spur/ Papachinos. So it felt so good to make an adult choice, ha ha. Although I loved every minute spent with my sister, niece and Kwando I must say that day with hubby was my favourite.
The following weekend we were also out-of-town in Durban. We had gone down for hubby’s aunt’s 75th birthday which was so lovely. Friday we had planned to take Kwands out to uShaka Marine World, but I was so caught up with the chat I was having with my sister-in-love that time just got the better of us. Unfortunately it was such an in and out that we hardly got time to do anything or even go to the beach. I’m a sentimental type person, so the time spent with all the cousins , aunts and uncles was just perfect for me. I really enjoyed being around them cause I’m not used to being around so many family members at once .My dad was a very immediate family only, and extended family when necessary type of man, so we hardly ever spent time with extended family. It’s one of the things I absolutely love about my husband’s family.
I managed to sneak in a shoot this past week with a fellow blogger/ photographer friend. I must admit i was slightly nervous about this shoot. Firstly, because I had never worked with her before and secondly, the change in direction. I’m leaning towards a more natural, relatable aesthetic, i.e, me at home, not so model posey. I hope you guys enjoy these pics as much as I do. Also, when you guys have time, please have a look at her blog, you really won’t regret it. She’s a really gifted writer, that effortlessly speaks her mind and shares very intricate details about parenthood ( three beautiful kids) and marriage. Her name is Phumza Marumo https://phumzamarumo.co.za/ ( this is the link to her blog).
Happy belated Mother’s day to all my mom readers, I hope you had a very special day!
