It's Me Style

5 Tips on how to pick out & style trendy denims Pt 2

Happy Tuesday guys!

I’m currently the happiest mom in the world right now, cause I finally secured a new school for Kwando. This is completely unrelated to the style post, but I thought I’d let you share in on my excitement! Anyways, as the cool kids say “As you were”.
This is me serving you Part 2 of how to style & purchase trendy denims. I decided to keep this look relatively simple and style it as an easy-going day time look, errands outfit of the day or even a coffee date meet up look, if you will. Simply put, this is a look that could work for a bunch of day time outings and I definitely think you’ll have similar items in your wardrobe to serve as inspiration.
Classic denim & white
If all else fails, then stick to the unspoken rule of wearing denim & white because it works time after time. Personally, I’ve yet to see someone butcher this look, so you should be picking this look out with a lot of confidence. This is easily one of my favourite go to looks, because you don’t have to over think anything. Try this look with a sheer blouse or styled shirt.

Let the denim stand out

I bought these denims last year for a ridiculous price of R80. If you’re familiar with the Mr P brand, you’ll know that throughout the year they’ll have priced to go items and this trendy piece happened to be just one of them. This is just a reminder to not break the bank trying to look like a fashionista, keep searching until you find a denim that’s within your budget/ price range.
If you’re feeling a little more confident or wanting to challenge yourself then step up to the plate and purchase a denim that offers more detail like the one I’m wearing. My favourite feature on this denim has to be the double toned finish, with a touch of fade. I enjoy the play on colour and tones as it helps give the denim more character. BUT, of course the stand out feature has to be the frayed seam running vertically on both sides of the legs, this creates texture and gives it just the right touch of flair!
Be aware of proportions
This denim is an ankle grazer, which means it has a slight play on proportion.  It’s important to try denim on with both flat shoes and a pair of high heels to see if it works with both.

The choice of cut
This is a straight cut denim, the most authentic of all modern denims. A mid-rise waist and roomier fit around the thighs make them exceptionally wearable and surprisingly flattering. Try a few styles to make sure you’re comfortable in the cut. I’m naturally of a slender shape with a bit of height, and normally my biggest struggle is the crotch area of a denim and the buttocks. It’s important to identify your problem areas if you have any and purchase denims that are flattering for your shape.

Pop of colour

Because I opted for the classic denim and white, it made it easier for me to introduce colour to this look. I decided to draw attention to my feet, then the upper part of my body since this look is all about the denim. You could choose to add colour by sporting bright accessories such as a chunky neck piece or tassel earrings. If you’re more daring than me, you could easily work in a bit of colour through makeup, by wearing a bright lippie or bold eyeshadow palette. For a more toned down addition, you could throw on a summer scarf ,or rock a miniature sling bag or even a woven belt with an interesting pattern. It’s up to you for interpretation, but do go for colour to make this look more interesting!
