27 April commemorates the day in 1994 when the first democratic election was held in South Africa. Today, South Africa celebrates Freedom Day to mark the liberation of our country and its people from a long period of colonialism and White minority domination (apartheid).
So I ask, what is freedom to you? To me, it is emancipation from issues such as poverty, racism, unemployment, sexism and other forms of discrimination. 22 years into our democracy and it seems we are still a long way from solving these issues. However, I’m thankful for the courageous acts of our forefathers, standing up against inequality, oppression and injustices. Where would one be today had they not?! As Nelson Mandela once said “There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our desires.” No words could be truer! So may today mark as a reminder that our freedom was bought with a price, may we never take it for granted!
Moving along from all the seriousness…. I’m having a very relaxed Freedom Day, woke up this morning had prayer and devotion session with my husband, then went straight into mommy duties. Oh how could I forget, I had time to make my favourite for breakfast, french toast, with crispy bacon and a drizzle, maybe a whole lot of syrup.
My son is currently acting like a two-year old, he turns two in October, but in my mind he’s already there. I don’t want to confess that he’s approaching what they call the “terrible two-phase”, but I’m not quite sure how else to put it. Allow me to go into detail…. Two out of four of our dining room table chairs have now become colouring books, I wish he used crayons ,but he pulled out the big guns on this one, and INK one the day. Dont ask me when and how he got the chance, I’m still trying to figure that one out myself. If that’s not enough, the new game now is let’s see what can make into the toilet, yep, that’s right the toilet. I can’t even lie this “game” leaves me defeated. I’m left thinking should I soak his hands in bleach or maybe even try cutting them off ( dramatic much), ha ha… My absolute favorite (insert sarcastic tone) has to be the bin activity, he takes everything out and it goes straight into the mouth, oh and if it’s a number two nappy, he throws the bag outside, on the other side of the gate. Oftentimes I’m left speechless! All I know is our lives have become rather interesting of late, baby number two is screaming my name, I need some sort of balance.
New obsession alert, drum roll please…….. Mini skirts! I used to wear a lot of them when I was still in high school, it seems I outgrew it during my varsity days. Well I’m back, and boy does husband love it. You will be seeing quite a few posts with me in mini skirts in the near future. In Jozi, the cold has slowly crept in, but it does not mean it’s time to pack away the little sexy numbers. Pair it with thigh boots, a pair of patterned stockings, a mix of leg warmers and thigh high socks. On top, layer with a waterfall cardigan and biker jacket. When the cold really, really sets in, thrown on the trench coat or over-sized knit.
Mall of Africa is finally opening tomorrow…HALLELUJAH! Proposed to be the biggest mall in Africa, which means more brands, more diversity and range. And two, it’s literally 10 minutes away from the house. Can I get an AMEN! I’m hoping to pick up a few key winter pieces. All I’m thinking is dear God please may they have opening specials! I’m not a huge fan of spending in Winter, the season is VERY short, so I just need a FEW key items that will last over a number of seasons.
